The 2008 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions Results

The long 2008 NFL Draft was just completed today and there were some surprise picks. The first 10 picks were almost as projected but about the next 10 were big surprises. The Detroit Lions had the 15th pick overall in the first round but they ended up trading it to the Chiefs to move up in the third round. They ended up with the 17th overall pick and they selected Gosder Cherilus who is an offensive tackle. This was a big shocker to everyone and it seems to be another disappointing selection for the Lions. I was expecting them to take running back Rashard Mendenhall but for some reason they chose not to. Other notable picks by the Lions were Jordan Dizon in the second round and running back Kevin Smith in the third round. The Detroit Lions ended up receiving bad grades from the draft experts but I really liked that they went after all the positions they needed to fill this year. I also liked that they took Kevin Smith in the third round because he seems to have second round talent. Overall the Lions draft results seemed to be descent but no one knows for sure until all of these players play in the NFL.
